Our Department received a call today from an area resident reporting a "scam" call where the caller identified themselves as a member of the Brimfield Police Department. The caller stated the recipient had fraudulent activity on her Amazon account and was attempting to obtain account information from her. Further, the phone number that showed up on the recipient's phone was our actual police department phone number, as she pushed re-dial following the call and was immediately connected to our Department. Phone number "spoofing" programs allow scammers to do this.
If you receive a phone call from someone identifying themselves as a member of our department (or any other law enforcement agency), please know that we will never ask you to divulge confidential financial information such as your Amazon account information over the phone.
