University of Akron track and field redshirt sophomore pole vaulter Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) garnered Second-Team All-America accolades on the strength of a 12th-place showing (18-1/5.51m) at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of New Mexico on Friday, March 10.
Making his third NCAA Championship appearance Garretson cleared the opening bar of the competition at 17-5 (5.31m) on his initial attempt at the height. It took him all three attempts at 17-9 (5.41m) to collect a successful clearance to advance.
He passed at the next bar of 17-11 (5.46m) before returning to the runway at 18-1 (5.51m). He again surpassed the height on his third and final attempt to move forward.
Garretson unsuccessfully took a pair of attempts at personal-best bar of 18-3 (5.56m) before retiring from the competition.
