FOIA Request to Athens County Regarding Public Records from January to October 2024 on October 7, 2024.
We at SE Ohio Times have formally requested access to public records under the Ohio Open Records Law, §149.43 et seq., from Athens County. The request was made on October 7, 2024, and it specifically asked for a list of FOIA logs sent to the county from January 1, 2024, until October 7, 2024.
The requested records include fields such as the requester's name and organization, content of the request, date of the request and its completion date, as well as the status of the FOIA. As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities.
Our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public with an emphasis on holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency. Given this role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
As we continue our commitment towards ensuring transparency in local government affairs through accurate news reporting, we eagerly await a positive response from Athens County regarding our request.
