GENESIS HEALTHCARE SYSTEM: First Holmes County Vietnam fatality memorialized more than 50 years later

Celebration

Genesis HealthCare System issued the following announcement on Sept. 20.

It took more than 50 years, but his memory will live on forever.

United States Marine Corps Cpl. Fredrick Wayne "Rick" Miller was memorialized at a moving ceremony earlier this month in his hometown of Berlin.

A stretch of state Route 39 at the east end of town was renamed Cpl. Fredrick Wayne Miller Memorial Highway.

Miller was the first Holmes County native to die during the Vietnam War. He was killed April 21, 1966, with only a month left to serve of his second stint.
