Athens Community Center Introducing Humanities in the Park

113e

Introducing Humanities in the Park!

This new, interactive exhibit series located in the Richland Ave Park aims to highlight the important role the humanities have played in shaping Athens and Southeast Ohio--and how they still impact our daily lives.

Visit the first exhibit “Women Promoting Education in Southeast Ohio” currently on display, and look for new exhibits every few months. Meant to offer something for all ages, the panels include QR codes that will take visitors to resources like diaries and documents in online archives.

Humanities in the Park is made possible, in part, by a grant from Ohio Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Many local organizations also came together to make the exhibit series possible, including the Athens Department of Arts, Parks and Recreation; Athens County Public Libraries; humanities faculty in the Ping Institute; the Ohio University Libraries (in particular the Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections and the Digital Initiatives Department); and The Central Region Humanities Center at Ohio University.
