Brimfield Police Department Life Saving Award

206e

This morning Capt. Christopher Adkins was presented with our department Life Saving Award by Chief Mosley. On November 19th, an 88-year old suffering from dementia managed to escape from a memory care unit in Aurora by climbing through a window. Hours passed until authorities were notified, and outdoor temperatures had dipped to a very cold level. After searching the immediate area, Aurora PD activated our regional Metro SWAT drone team, and Capt. Adkins responded to that call out. Capt. Adkins was able to locate the man in a ravine in a wooded area, and first responders were then guided into the area to render aid. The man's body temperature had dropped to a critical stage and he was transported to an area hospital (he has since made a recovery).

In his letter to our department, Chief Byard from Aurora PD noted "it is without a doubt that the elderly male would not have survived had it not been for the quick response and the diligent effort of Capt. Adkins and the drone team. The family and I would like to personally thank him."

Nice job Capt. Adkins.

Just a clarification, Captain Adkins is a member of the Metro SWAT Drone Team, is an FAA certified drone pilot, and was flying the drone when the team located the missing man.
